Witches Fingers

I have a recipe for witches delight. It’s enough to make you want to take flight……a poem by Christy Ann Martine, says it all about Witches Fingers.
Witches Fingers

Bugles dipped in candy coating. So about Bugles…. when I was a kid, these were a great salty snack and fun finger food…..literally. We would put a Bugle on each finger and pretend we were witches, then snap them off one by one, and eat them. I tried to put one on my finger, but apparently they only come in kid size. Anyone who grew up in the mid 60’s will have a similar story. Now, I hadn’t seen or eaten Bugles in more years than I care to say. I wasn’t even sure where they were at the grocery store…..yikes. Finding them on the top shelf at the end of the chip aisle, I remarked to a lady standing in the aisle that I didn’t even realize they still made Bugles, she chuckled. I saw her in another aisle later….she had Bugles in her cart, now I chuckled.

My first attempt at these was not good! I tried using white candy melt and adding food coloring. Witches Fingers need tone…either black or red. Liquid is the enemy of meting chocolates.

Things were smooth at first, seriously I added the color and the candy stayed smooth….yeah! Except the Witches Fingers would have been pink….not good! More food coloring (I used gel) and then….bam …just like that it seized up on me. Five dollars of melting chocolate in the trash….I was bummed!

Now I live in what some would call the boonies, but we do have a JoAnn Fabrics close by ….thank goodness……and they carry an extensive line of baking products. Thank the Lord they had colored candy melts….red and black……the Witches Finger were saved!!! These candy melts can be bought at any store selling baking supplies.

I used a half a bag of each color of the melts and probably about 3/4 the bag of Bugles. Using the big end of the Bugle to hold onto I dipped the tip of the Bugle into the melted coating, dragging it slightly then placed them on parchment lined sheet to dry.

Witches Fingers

These could not be easier and piled in a cute little cauldron, they could not be cuter! If you are looking for a sweet and salty snack for your Halloween table dip yourself up some Witches Fingers.
