Cheesy Jalapeño Quick Bread

Cheesy Jalapeño Quick Bread was born of excess……excess jalapeños, excess cheese, and excess corn…….but that part is for my next post. There is a grilled sandwich in the future!

Cheesy Jalapeño Quick Bread

We have become ALDI shoppers. If you don’t have an ALDI’s in your area, they are a no frills, great quality grocery plus store. The plus being….I got my Instant Pot there for $40, and we bought an off set patio umbrella for under $50……I know right!!!

Anyway, the company originated in Germany. Opening the first US store in Iowa in 1976, ALDI now has more than 1600 stores in 35 states. Luckily we live in one of those states. There are actually 2 stores within a 10 mile radius of our house!!

A few ground rules if you have never shopped ALDI’s before
  • You need a quarter for a shopping cart. You deposit a coin in a devise on the cart and when you return the cart you get your quarter back.
  • Bring bags, as you need to pack your own groceries. They do have bags to purchase
  • Once upon a time the store was cash only, but now accepts most credit cards and food stamps, but they do not accept WIC
  • No coupons here either
  • Be flexible, its a different experience than a regular grocery store.
  • If you are brand specific this may not be for you
  • Be aware that some nonfood items like laundry soap, toothpaste, and paper products may not have the best prices

Here is what we have found to be the best bets at ALDI
  • Meat – you can’t beat the price
  • Produce – Huge selection and great quality
  • Nice selection of organic items at a great price
  • Seasonal non food stuff – as I said earlier we purchased an off set stand umbrella for under $50…….usually over $150

Overall we shop at ALDI’s a couple of times a month for meats and produce.

On a recent trip to ALDI’s I purchased a bag – I think there was 8 jalapeños in the bag for 79 cents. I usually spend that much for one or two. Now, for two people, I must admit this was an excess of jalapeños. Pinterest to the rescue……crazy amount of recipes for jalapeños.

Lately I have been a fan of the quick bread, check out our One Bowl Blueberry Breakfast Bread or Honey Beer bread

If you peruse Pinterest you know that when you search for something its almost overwhelming how many recipes you can find.

Quick bread recipes using jalapeños were abundant. After looking at over a dozen recipes, some used cream cheese, others used beer, and still others used buttermilk……I had a plan.

Cheesy Jalapeño Quick Bread

One of my strong suits in cooking is, I can blend several recipes and make it my own. Such is the case with Cheesy Jalapeño Quick Bread. Quick breads are pretty basic…. flour, a leavening agent, egg, butter, and add-ins….all the extra stuff that makes it so yummy.

Jalapeños, and two kinds of cheese make for a spicy cheese loaf that is stellar on it’s own, but would be perfect with soup or chili. Still being summer I know you maybe don’t want to think of soup or chili, but the season will soon be here.

CHEESY!!!!!

One bowl, a few ingredients, and you are on your way to a spicy, cheesy quick bread.

By the way, I did have an ulterior motive when making this bread …..keep a watch our for our next post that will use Cheesy Jalapeño Quick Bread and the afore mentioned excess of corn to make great grilled sandwich…..stay tuned!!

  1. This was so good. Only change, since I didn’t have Mexican blend cheese, used parmesan in place. Looked beautiful and tasty! Rose beautifully. Light, not dense. Would be wonderful gifts.

  2. I can never have too many jalapenos. I often have a couple for a snack. Have you ever had jalapeno poppers? I can’t deep fry so I make mine in a toaster oven. I halve them lengthwise, scrape out the seeds and put them in an oven proof dish. Then I fill them with sliced old/sharp cheddar. I’m lazy so I just use chunks. Into the toaster oven at 400F for 20-30 minutes until the cheese is melted and starting to brown and the peppers are soft.
I sure wish Aldi’s would come to Canada, preferably to my small city. That sure would make the other grocery stores sit up and take notice.

  3. My family loves this bread! I doubled it to make 2loaves in oven now. I’ve also made it with chipotle peppers. Delicious recipe!

  4. Haven’t tried it yet, but plan too. ‘Tis the season for Jalapeno’s,
Only thing, is the buttermilk. Can I switch with something else? or make one? I use Almond milk
Love Aldi! I’m on their AOS FB page, and so fun reading everyone’s comments.

    Caw-Caw!
