Tim and I have been using Wal Mart pick up service for a while and love the convenience and the time-saving. This service is even more essential to practice social distancing. We have also used Instacart.

Once the pandemic madness began getting a Wal Mart pick-up was next to impossible. And toilet paper…..forget about it!!! My first experience with Instacart was good, but I have mixed feelings. As more and more people are using the service, it has had a few issues.

So when all the craziness began, and folks were running to the stores and clearing the shelves, we decided to try a meal delivery service. Just to make sure we would have food in our humble abode.

Fact about me: I research everything! Looking at all the meal delivery services, what they offered, price, nutrition, we settled on Martha & Marley Spoon.

First, let me say that I am a huge Martha Stewart fan and have been for a very long time. My family used to call me Marty Stewart…lol. I felt confident that the meals you be delivered fresh and the choices were types of meals that Tim and I enjoy.

There are 22 recipes to choose from weekly; you pick your delivery date. We chose Mondays, and we wanted four meals per week. The price was reasonable at about $7 per meal (including shipping). I will say this was an introductory price, and the cost is now closer to $10 per meal. While this may be pricy for some, it is about less than the cost of a restaurant meal.

You can skip weeks, change your menus, or cancel at any time. They also have a great app that lets you track your menus and makes changes.

Our first box came, and we were so excited I did a video. I’ve been a bit reluctant to do one, but Tim convinced me. Opening the box (after we did the appropriate cleaning)(can’t be too careful these days), I was impressed by the contents. All meals are packed in bags and labeled with the meal inside. Recipe cards are included (6 steps – 30 minutes) and have step by step instructions that are easy to follow even for a novice cook.

Also in the box were ice packs to keep the meat and other items cold and fresh. Individual packets of spices and condiments needed for the recipes are in the box as well. You only need to have a few basic pantry items such as oil, vinegar, flour, sugar, salt, and pepper to create the recipes.

Once we had the box unpacked, I made the first recipe. Since I usually create recipes or just wing-it when cooking, it was a little different for me to follow step by step…I muddled through…lol.

After you have made the recipes, you can go to either the web site or the app and rate the recipes. For the first week, we gave all 5 stars. We took pictures of our final product from the first box so you can see what we made.

We have now been receiving meals for about a month. Will we keep it up? I’m pretty sure we will. As with anything, you need to pick what works for you and your family.

For Tim and I, we have found that choosing our meals in advance, having them delivered to our door, and not having leftovers is a big plus. It saves us time, and although the meals are what some might consider pricy, it is worth not having to spend half a day shopping. I highly recommend Martha & Marley Spoon if you want to try a Home Delivery – Pick Up Services.
