Fruity Nut Mix

How many snacky, trail mixy, dried fruit and nut mixes are there?………hundreds, thousands……perhaps, I exaggerate, but there are plenty of them. The one thing they all seem to have in common……….raisins. I really do not like raisins. I am not sure why, but I just don’t.

Sorry California Raisins……..but I’m sure, you heard it through the grapevine that you are not my favorite thing. I dumped you for other dries fruits. I love, love, love dried cranberries. I will eat them on anything. I have the same feeling about dried pineapple, those sweet, chewy, nuggets……..hmmm.

Tim and I look at all those mixes at the store, but have a hard time choosing because of my raisin aversion.  So, we usually don’t buy them, or if we do, I end up picking out the raisins….what a pain!

Hey……I write a food blog ……I can make my own……so, thats what I did. Fruity Nut Mix! You can too! It’s quick, easy, and if you don’t eat the whole bowl in one setting, it’s good for you.

Nuts are packed with heart-healthy fats, protein, vitamins, and minerals. But, be aware that although the fats are heart healthy, it is fat and they are high in calories.

Dried fruits deliver more fiber and minerals, and about the same amount of B vitamins, as fresh fruit. Just be mindful that a small portion of dried fruit has significantly more calories than fresh fruit. Also when buying dried fruits know that some add sugar, so always check the labels.

But, in moderation Fruity Nut can hold you over until dinner, or be a snack when you are on the go. I suggest you place serving portion in ziplock bags. Easy to grab, go and not over indulge.

For my mix I used pecans, walnuts, and almond, along with sunflower seeds, dried cranberries and pineapple, and toasted coconut. It turned out yummy! I keep some in the car …….just in case hunger strikes……ok it always does, but now I am covered.

Try our Fruity Nut Mix…….with no raisins! If you have to add them, just don’t tell me………lol.
