The following is a repost of what is becoming one of our most popular recipes. After a 2015 trip to the nearest Starbucks, which was at the time almost 50 miles away we did a calorie re-make of one of our favorite drinks Caramel Frappuccino. Behold…… Skinny – Caramel Frappuccino !

Today we have a Starbucks less than a mile away, but they kept all the calories in our favorite drinks 🙄 we still enjoy the real deal but we also enjoy this recipe, and we hope you do too!!

This is gonna be a real quickie……Starbucks is the bomb for coffee……well, at least Tim and I think so. One of our favorites is the Caramel Frappuccino………but with a Grande coming in at about 380 calories……… yikes! Talk about drinking your calories.

 

So, when I saw the recipe for Skinny Caramel Frappuccino from Averie Cooks and it boasts only 50 calories…….we were in!!

We tried it yesterday, as a light dessert after our Grilled Spaghetti and Cheese Sandwich, which was not light, but totally awesome!

When things are said to be skinny, or light, or low cal, my mind says how good can it be?

Caramel Frapp

Well, this was great……..rich coffee flavor, cold and frosty, topped with light cool whip, and just a small drizzle of caramel sauce…….yummy yum yum!

I did change up the recipe a bit. I used instant espresso, instead of coffee, and I did not use sugar-free caramel……I went for the real deal. A few mini chocolate chips, and a sprinkle of Heath bits……..heavenly! I am probably over 50 calories, but I am under 100………for dessert that rocks!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups ice cubes
  • 1 cup cold espresso
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or your favorite milk)
  • 1 packet stevia powder or other sweetener
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons light cool whip whipped topping , for garnishing
  • 1 tablespoon regular or sugar free caramel sauce , for garnishing
  • 1 teaspoon mini chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon Heath brickle chips

Instructions

  1. Combine first 5 ingredients in a blender and blend until well blended, smooth, and creamy.
  2. Garnish with whipped topping, caramel sauce, mini chips, and Heath

Notes

This makes one really large or two regular size drinks.

We all have those mornings when it is next to impossible to eat a good breakfast……..ah yeah ……like every morning. 

A grab and go breakfast is on just about everyones list. So, if you are gonna grab and go…….grab tasty and nutritious when you go……Raspberry Chia Smoothie!!!!

Tim and I have these almost every work day morning as we are running out the door. They are easy to prepare and extra healthy with the chia seeds.

So, you know whats next……a lesson……CHIA SEEDS……Chia is an edible seed that comes from a desert plant……..not a fuzzy hair growing Christmas gift that nobody wants………….Nutty-tasting whole-grain chia seeds are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, and they have among the highest antioxidant activity of any whole food….. even more than fresh blueberries. Another advantage of chia seeds being so rich in antioxidants is the seeds won’t deteriorate and can be stored for long periods without becoming rancid. And they do good stuff for the body, like keeping blood pressure and blood sugar under control.

The chia seeds you get in a Chia Pet have not been approved as food by the FDA, so get yours from a health food store, grocery store or order online. 

As always, if you have any health concerns or take medications it’s best to consult your Doctor before adding Chia Seeds to you daily regime. OK lesson over 🙂

Raspberry Chia Smoothie 1

Now, for the really good part…….the smoothie tastes like a raspberry shake…….no lie! They are cold and thick, with the sweet taste of raspberries and a hint of banana. 

Good part number two…….you can use any fruit you like. Raspberries not your thing, use strawberries,blueberries, mango, pineapple, blackberries………

I either buy frozen oragnic fruit or freeze my own. We have it down to an art….so I have yet to try this, but on Pinterest you can find out how to make smoothie packs so all you have to do is throw them in the blender with the almond milk……even easier. 

So, if you are looking for that healthy grab and go breakfast with the added nutritional value of the chia seed, make a Raspberry Chia Smoothie before you rush out the door!

  • 1/2cup almond milk
  • 1/2 cup vanilla Greek yogurt
  • 1 banana
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds

Instructions

  1. Place the raspberries, almond milk, yogurt, banana, and chia seeds, in a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth.

You can substitute any fruit you like for this recipe.
