Hot Cakes Japanese Style

Hot Cakes

I am becoming a fan of pancakes…..there I said it! I never really have cared for them the way I do French Toast. But, in recent months, I have embraced the pancake or hot cake.

I saw a picture on Pinterest with the most beautiful pancakes I had ever seen, so of course I had to look at the site and the recipe. Tara’s Multicultural Table……Tara features recipes from all around the world and had the recipe for the Hot Cakes. Visit her site for more multicultural recipes.

Tim is alway up for pancakes a.k.a. hot cakes, so when I suggested them, it was a thumbs up. They do take a few more minutes to make, as they require a resting time, but during the rest you can make the easy peasy Japanesey syrup to smother the beautiful pancakes in.

Asparagus Goat Cheese Pizza

Asparagus Goat Cheese Pizza

Asparagus Goat Cheese Pizza

As our asparagus patch winds down for it’s first productive year, I wanted to make something different with our last cutting.

How about Asparagus Goat Cheese Pizza? I ran across a recipe that was written in…..you guessed it French (if you are new to our blog I am a huge French/France fan). Now translations sometimes do not go as you plan. Some words do not translate into the same products or instructions…….well lets just say, if I ever had to cook in France I may not do so well…….

That being said, I decided that perhaps my best approach was to make my own recipe and forget the translation. If you would like to see the original recipe take a look at the  La popotte de Manue website. It is all written in French but is a very pretty website.

So, on to my version, I liked the idea of the asparagus and goat cheese, and adding bacon…….well, its bacon…… you can add bacon to anything and have a winner!

We always have onions on pizza, and red onions have the color and taste that are just right for this pizza. I wasn’t sure about the cream and egg mixture as the “sauce” but it lent a creaminess when mixed with all the other ingredients.

You can make your own dough or buy a ready made dough. Do use dough and not a pre made crust, as you need to make a rim so the egg mixture stays on the pizza, and isn’t a giant mess in the bottom of your oven.

So, for our final cut of asparagus, we give the Asparagus Goat Cheese Pizza a big thumbs up and we think you will too!!!!

Bacon Egg Breakfast Bread

Bacon Egg Breakfast Bread

Bacon and Egg Breakfst Bread

Sunday breakfast has alway been a big deal for Tim and I. When we were first dating, we went to breakfast every Sunday morning. We had a favorite place and we had a favorite waitress………..we were Sunday morning regulars………..fast forward three years, we are now an old married couple and we tend to stay home more.

But, Sunday breakfast is still a big deal. We have the usual bacon and eggs, or french toast, or pancakes. But, sometimes we try something new and today was a ‘try something new  day’!

I suppose, you could consider this a pizza, but I prefer to call it a Breakfast Bread. Eggs, bacon, and cheese fancied up with cherry tomatoes, basil, and spiced up with just a touch of pepper flakes!

Yeast dough is scary for a lot of you……….don’t be afraid!!!! It is really easy. The dough takes just a few minutes to put together, it has a short knead time (I use my Kitchen-aide mixer, it takes all the work out of it). The rise time gives you time to prep the other ingredients. If you are really afraid of the dough, you can use a pre-made, but give the dough a try you will not be sorry.

Tim and I really enjoyed this Bacon Egg Breakfast Bread……..it will join the list of our  Sunday favorites!
